Google may be one of your best friends, or one of your worst enemies. But whether you love or hate it, understanding how to use it for your benefit is crucial to building and growing your business. You know what they say: Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer.
Why is a Google Business Page Important?
Even if you don’t use Google yourself, many people rely on it to search for the things they need. And if you want to grow your business and reach more customers, you want Google to know who you are. Thankfully, it doesn’t take a lot of time to create or manage, and it can make all the difference in helping current and future customers find you.
Are Your Business Hours Correct on Google Maps?
This is one of the reasons it’s important to set-up and regularly update your Google Business Page. Let’s say you have a Mexican Restaurant. If someone is searching for tacos in your area and your business looks like it’s closed, they are probably going somewhere else. If your address is listed wrong, they may go to the wrong place. People don’t always go the extra mile to find out if Google Maps got it wrong. It’s important to make sure all of your business information is up to date on your business page.
Have You Heard the Buzz Word “SEO?”
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization—it’s a fancy way of saying, “help search engines find you.” A search engine’s job is to connect people with the best answers to their questions. If the search engine recognizes you as an expert, they’ll share your content in the search results!
For example: If you’re a fitness coach and someone searches for, How often should I work out? You may want Google to show your business in the results. You can do this by posting a blog on the topic, building a website landing page about it, or even through photos and posts on your Business Page. By talking directly to search engines about the topics that surround your small business, you’re teaching them who you are. You’re essentially saying, “I have the answers that these people are looking for. Share my business with these people.”
